Research Experience:
His main research interest is in the area of Architectural and Urban Design, which he is studying under different angles: It’s production (design tools and processes), it’s theory, history and possible futures, it’s outcomes and the ways those are evaluated and discussed. He received his Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D. equivalent) for a dissertation on the theory of architectural design from the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus, Germany (see: Tools for Ideas, Basel, 2007, Beijing 2011). In the area of architectural theory, he aims to better understand the cultural, social and economic position of architects in an increasingly globalized and digitalized world. Diverging Eastern and Western perspectives on contemporary architectural theory have become a core issue here. His research on 20th and 21st century architecture and urban design started with a focus on Portuguese architecture. He has been studying the approach to context, geometry, materials, production, economics, politics, the built heritage, landscape and urbanity. Since he has moved to Suzhou, this area of interest expanded on architecture and urban design in Southeast China. Emerging avant-garde architecture under the conditions of a rapidly urbanizing society has been a recent focus.
